We all know how difficult it can be to decipher truly nutritious products from those pretending to be! Now imagine you had a Nutrition Coach AND a Chef (that’s me!) walk you through a supermarket and hand-pick the most nutritious and delicious items for you, aisle by aisle.

My healthy shopping list is an insider’s guide as to what I buy- from “clean” packaged snacks that taste amazing to quick protein options and even the healthiest desserts. I explain why I buy them so there’s no more confusion about food labels or ingredients, just deliciously healthy hand-picked selections from me to you. It’s a shopping list and product guide in one… and the only one you will ever need!

Helpful Tips Before You Shop:

  • Choose a market based on your needs. I’ve discovered that places like Whole Foods or your local health food store (which is typically less expensive than Whole Foods) will always carry a larger selection of natural products plus local-to-you-items that you won’t find elsewhere. That being said, most standard grocery stores have either a specified section or full aisle of all-natural and even gluten free options.
  • Eat clean! My goal is to eat mostly clean food that is minimally processed with little to no white sugar and my shopping list reflects that. I use organic products often and try to avoid GMO foods (genetically modified foods that many experts believe may lead to an increase in the risk of disease). I am mostly gluten and dairy free, but you’ll find options that include dairy and gluten and some wicked delicious items that do not (even if you’re not gluten/ dairy free, I think you’ll love em’). I’m far from Vegan (I like my meat) but have included Vegan products that I love too.
  • If you can’t find a particular product that I’ve listed, get creative. Whether it’s a product on my healthy shopping list or a product a friend recommends, it’s always a bummer if you can’t find what you’re looking for at your local market. Here’s how to get the item you want no matter what:
    • Google the item and use the product locator on the company website.
    • Order the product online.
    • Use the company website to your advantage and see what makes this particular product great. For example, is it a tortilla chip that is all natural and gluten-free with no preservatives? Make a few notes and look for the same criteria when cruising the tortilla chip aisle at your local market.
    • If your heart is set on a particular product, go to the FAQ page on the company website. More often than not, they will include specific instructions on how to get your local market to carry their product or an information request from you so they can reach out to the market directly. You can also contact your local market directly and request that they carry the product.
  • Forget shopping just the “perimeter” and shop the whole store! It drives me nuts when I hear people say to skip all of the aisles in the supermarket and just shop the perimeter. There are a ton of deliciously clean products hiding out in the aisles if you know what to look for. Though all supermarkets are set up differently, my healthy shopping list will walk you through your entire supermarket aisle by aisle as well as the perimeter for a full shopping cart filled with balanced, clean and delicious food. Real life includes food found in the aisles- I’ll show you the best ones!
  • Balance your meals to burn fat! My goal is always the same; to teach you how to create restaurant-style meals that get you fit! That means stabilizing your blood sugar by eating a delicious meal or snack with the right balance of protein, carbohydrates and fat every three hours or so. This allows you to naturally release stored fat while boosting your metabolism and energy (no dieting required). While my healthy shopping list does not go into depth about how to balance all of your meals, you can find more information about that by reading the “About My Recipes” and following the “What’s the Nutrition Balance” section at the bottom of any of my recipes here.
  • Buy what you need. Unless you’re feeding an army, you should not buy everything on my shopping list (trust me, it’s extensive and meant to be the ultimate product guide and shopping list in one!) Pick and choose what appeals to you most and what works best for your household. And before you shop, toss anything in your fridge or cabinets that you won’t (or shouldn’t) eat to make room for the good stuff!
