21 Apr Banana Almond Smoothie
I LOVE this smoothie- it’s so simple and sweet and just easy. Plus it has a great balance of protein, carbohydrates and fat to help boost your energy and metabolism. Most smoothies are loaded in fruit (which is a good thing) but too much fruit and carbs without enough protein can cause an increase in blood sugar and potentially fat storage followed by a sugar crash later on. Yikes! So remember, it’s all about the balance; the right balance of natural carbohydrates (like fruit) plus protein ( like protein powder) and fat (like nut butter) in your smoothies will keep you happy and fit! What other goodness is in this smoothie? Bananas have potassium, Vitamin C, B6 and fiber. Almond milk is an awesome way to load up on calcium (each cup has about 45% of your daily requirements)and Vitamins E and D. And almonds are rich in healthy fats and antioxidants. Like this pic? Banana Almond Smoothie
Makes 2 smoothies
- 1 banana
- 2 servings of your favorite protein powder (I used Power Crunch Proto Whey Vanilla Creme)
- 1 heaping tablespoon almond butter
- 16 ounces unsweetened almond milk
- pinch nutmeg (optional)
- water and ice as needed
- Blend all ingredients until smooth and creamy. Sip and be happy…
